What is DHA?
DHA, or docosahexaenoic acid, is a key omega-3 fatty acid found throughout the body. DHA helps with the development of baby’s prenatal and postnatal brain and visual development.8,9

Advantages of plant-based DHA
Plant-based DHA is derived directly from algae grown in fermentation tanks. This avoids the worries you may have about oceanborne contaminants or toxins, which may be associated with fish-based DHA.15 Fish-based DHA is obtained by extracting DHA from fish oil after fish have eaten algae and are processed in variable filtration.10 The graphic below demonstrates the origins of both plant-based and fish-based DHA.

DHA effect on breastfeeding
Supplementation of DHA during pregnancy and while breastfeeding has been observed to contribute to favorable childhood mental development.14,18 PreNexa® prenatal vitamins provide a convenient source of DHA. The composition of the DHA in PreNexa® prenatal vitamins is similar to DHA found in human breast milk.19 In addition, the DHA in PreNexa® prenatal vitamins is the same DHA as you’ll find in nearly all baby formulas in the US.19
